Pessary Fittings at J & V Physiotherapy
What is a Pessary?
A pessary is a soft, medical-grade silicone device designed to sit comfortably inside the vagina to provide structural support for your pelvic organs. Think of it as a “support brace” for your internal anatomy—it gently lifts the bladder, uterus, or bowel to relieve symptoms of prolapse and leakage.
Is a Pessary Right for You?
Pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence can be life-altering, but surgery isn’t your only option. At J & V Physiotherapy, our goal is to improve your quality of life using conservative, non-surgical approaches first.
Common reasons patients choose a pessary:
- Immediate Relief: Reduce pressure, heaviness, and bulging so you can get back to your daily routine right away.
- Avoid or Delay Surgery: A great solution if you are waiting for a procedure, aren’t a surgical candidate, or simply want to avoid an operation.
- Prevent Progression: Support your organs during high-risk phases, such as postpartum recovery or menopause.
- Active Lifestyle: Stop urine leakage during exercise, coughing, or sneezing.
Why Choose a Pessary?
- Custom-Fit for You: No two bodies are the same. We test various sizes and styles during your fitting to find your perfect match.
- Removable & Reversible: You stay in control. You can remove it for cleaning or intimacy, and it causes no permanent changes to your body.
- Expert Care: Our team is specifically rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario for internal pelvic assessments and pessary fittings.
Your Journey at J & V Physiotherapy
- Comprehensive Assessment We don’t just “plug a leak.” We assess your pelvic floor muscles to address underlying tension or weakness, ensuring your pessary has the best foundation to work effectively.
- Professional Fitting We find the right fit for your lifestyle. You’ll walk, squat, and move during the appointment to ensure it’s comfortable. We also provide full training on how to insert, remove, and care for your device.
- Follow-Up & Support After 1–2 weeks of “real-life” testing (hiking, work shifts, playing with grandkids), we’ll meet again to ensure everything is performing perfectly.
